Career choices after MBBS in India MD/MS/Diploma The primary choice after MBBS for candidates who wish to advance their medical career is post graduation course in specialties like internal medicine, general surgery, gynecology , pediatrics , ENT etc. After MD/MS you become a specialist doctor. The duration of course is 3 years. Diploma of National Board (DNB) Some MBBS graduates also pursue their dreams of becoming a specialist doctor by continuing with a Diploma in the specialist field. DNB is a postgraduate diploma course offered by the National board of Examinations, and recognized by the MCI. The duration of course is 3 years. Few glitches that make DNB a second choice to MD/MS is the passing rate in DNB being very low, depending on the course and hospital of choice. Secondly, many hospitals prefer MD/MS candidates over DNB candidates. Thirdly, DNB course is provided mostly in private hospitals where practical exposure is less than govt. hospitals, esp
